“Whole Building Shook!” Teenager’s Home Experiment Causes Explosion

On the afternoon of April 6, a loud explosion rocked a residential building on Enzhou Beiheng Street in Guangzhou’s Liwan District. Multiple local shopkeepers reported that the blast originated from a residential unit, prompting immediate responses from fire and emergency medical teams. One civilian was injured in the incident.
Eyewitness accounts indicate the explosion occurred around 1:00 p.m., with shockwaves reportedly felt throughout the building. “The entire structure shook,” one resident described in neighborhood chat group messages. Emergency vehicles arrived shortly after the incident.

A shopkeeper at the scene observed emergency personnel transporting what appeared to be a student-aged victim with serious injuries to an ambulance. The Guangzhou Emergency Management Bureau confirmed preliminary findings that the explosion resulted from a teenage boy conducting experiments at home.
Liwan Central Hospital medical staff verified receiving a 15-year-old male patient suffering severe burns to his eyes and abdomen from the experimental accident. After emergency stabilization, doctors reported the patient “out of critical condition with stable vital signs.” The teenager has since been transferred to the General Hospital of the Southern Theater Command for specialized treatment.
